Risks and prevention — Electrical
Electrocution and arc flash burns are among the most common causes of death on construction sites. The CSTC and Québec Electrical Code strictly govern electrical work. All work must be performed de-energized unless de-energizing creates a greater hazard.
Lockout/tagout of energy sources is mandatory before any work. Workers must verify zero energy using an appropriate tester before touching any conductor. Arc flash PPE (flame-resistant clothing, face shield) is required based on incident energy level.
Temporary site power distribution must be protected by GFCIs and inspected regularly. Damaged extension cords must be immediately removed from service.
