Installation of pipes, fittings and fixtures. Based on Québec's Construction Safety Code (CSTC) and CNESST standards.
Before work

Existing systems located and shut off if needed (water, gas)

Torch and gas cylinders inspected — regulator in good condition

Fire precautions (CSTC 3.14.1) — site permit if the procedure requires it

Risks and prevention — Plumbing and piping
Plumbing work exposes workers to burns (propane soldering, hot water), cuts from tools and piping, and biological contamination when connecting to wastewater systems. LSST 51 covers eliminating hazards, including biological ones; RSST does not write a named “biological agents” plumbing rule.
Work in crawl spaces and basements may involve confined spaces with gas accumulation (radon, methane, H₂S). Gas detection and mechanical ventilation must be ensured before entry and during work.
