Risks and prevention — Heavy equipment mechanic
Maintaining construction machinery (excavators, loaders, cranes) involves burn risks (hot hydraulic oil, turbo), crushing under components, and high-pressure hydraulic injection. The CSTC and RSST require lockout and mechanical blocking before working under raised equipment.
Pressurized hydraulic fluid can penetrate skin and cause severe internal injuries. Fittings must be depressurized and systems mechanically blocked before disassembly. Mechanics must inspect hoses for wear, abrasion, and leaks before returning equipment to service.
