Risks and prevention — Rebar and reinforcement
Rebar work exposes workers to cuts from reinforcing bars, eye injuries from cutting and tying debris, and impalement on unprotected vertical bars. The CSTC requires every exposed vertical bar to have a protective cap or be bent over.
Work at height on rebar columns or walls requires a fall protection plan. Prefabricated cages must be rigged properly and stabilized before workers approach for tying.
Cut-resistant gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots are required at all times. Hydraulic benders and cutters must be used per manufacturer procedures.
