Risks and prevention — Industrial pipefitter
Process and steam piping exposes workers to burns, hazardous fluid leaks, and asphyxiation in confined spaces. RSST and CSTC govern hot work (welding, brazing) and lockout procedures on pressurized systems.
Pressure tests (hydrostatic or pneumatic) must follow ASME/CSA standards under competent supervision. The test zone must be barricaded and evacuated, as joint failure under pressure can project components with lethal force.
