Risks and prevention — Hot weather work

Heat stroke can be fatal and develops quickly during intense physical labour. CNESST recommends preventive measures when WBGT or Humidex reach critical thresholds. Workers most at risk are those not acclimatized, on medication, or wearing heavy PPE.

Measures include: constant access to cool water, shade or air-conditioned rest breaks, work-rest cycles adapted to physical load and temperature, and training workers to recognize signs (confusion, hot dry skin, nausea). An emergency plan with emergency service contacts must be posted.
