Risks and prevention — Heavy equipment

Operating excavators, loaders, and dozers poses risks of rollover, pedestrian crushing, and underground utility strikes. The CSTC requires a daily pre-operation inspection and a functional backup alarm on all mobile equipment.

Operators must hold the appropriate competency card (CCQ) and know their machine's limits. Operating zones must be barricaded and a spotter is required when operator visibility is limited. Seatbelt use in the cab is mandatory.
