Risks and prevention — Elevator installation
Elevator installation exposes workers to falls into the elevator shaft (one of the most dangerous openings on site), electrical hazards, and pinch points from moving components. The CSTC requires every shaft opening to be protected by compliant guardrails during construction.
Work atop the car requires a harness and an independent anchor system. Elevator mechanics must lockout energy sources before any work and follow manufacturer-specific lockout procedures.
