Risks and prevention — Commercial diver
Commercial diving in construction is among the most hazardous activities: drowning, hypothermia, gas embolism, and zero-visibility conditions. The CSTC and CSA Z275.2 standards govern diving operations. A dive plan and surface communication system are mandatory.
The dive team must include at minimum a standby diver, a surface tender, and a qualified diving supervisor. Work near water intakes or structures creating pressure differentials (cofferdams, gates) requires additional precautions against entrapment.
