Risks and prevention — Insulation and lagging
Insulation work exposes workers to irritating fibres (mineral wool, ceramic fibres), burns from hot pipes, and ergonomic risks from awkward positions. RSST governs fibre exposure and requires adequate respiratory protection.
Before insulating existing pipes, the presence of asbestos in old lagging must be verified. Asbestos removal is strictly regulated by CNESST and can only be performed by trained workers with specialized equipment.
