Safety checklist — Concrete pouring

Pouring and vibrating concrete. Compliant with Québec's Construction Safety Code (CSTC) and CNESST standards.

Before work

  • PPE worn: waterproof boots, pH-resistant gloves, safety glasses, hard hat

  • Formwork verified, oiled and conforming to plan

  • Concrete delivery slip conforming (strength, slump, admixtures)

  • Vibrating needle and vibrator tested and functional

  • Mixer truck access clear — signal person in place if reversing

  • Overhead power lines identified — safe distance maintainedCritical

    ℹ️ Minimum approach distance per voltage — see CNESST table

  • Pouring in regular lifts — drop height ≤ 1.5 m

  • Vibration applied without excess (avoid segregation)

  • Level and flatness checked during placement

  • Skin contact with fresh concrete avoided (chemical burn risk)

  • Pressure on formwork monitored — no deformation

After work

  • Surface floated/finished to specifications

  • Concrete curing applied if temperature > 25°C or strong wind

  • Equipment and pump cleaned immediately

  • Curing area secured and marked off

  • Wash water collected — no discharge to ground
